security installing FGS as root vs FGS as a regular user

security installing FGS as root vs FGS as a regular user

Hello,

I was advised that installing FGS as a regular desktop user is more secure than installing FGS as the root user.  However, once installed,  doesn’t FGS run under apache which is a limited user account, and therefore making FGS safe.  I would prefer to use port 80 as it is the standard webserver port.  But, I do not want to open up security risks on my machine.

Thanks

Hi,

FGS runs Apache under $USER which is the user that installed FGS. You
can change that in fgs/www/conf/httpd.conf. You can also change the port
FGS is running its Apache on in fgs/etc/fgs/pkgs/apache-base/apache.conf

Hope that helps

Julien
