Question to python-tools in Windows 7

Dr. Kai Behncke
Dear list,

I have got a question how to run the python-scripts in the Fwtools/bin-directory.

I`m working an Windows 7 and I use Python2.6 (out of ArcGIS) (to work with python-scripting in that GIS).

If I e.g. run:

C:\Program Files (x86)\FWTools2.4.7\bin\gdal_merge.py

I get "    import _gdal
ImportError: No module named _gdal".

Has anybody a hint how to solve that problem?
Could it help to copy the python-modules in the specific directory of Python26 or is it possible somehow to use the pyton-version of fwtools?

Thank you very much, Kai

Re: Question to python-tools in Windows 7

Dr. Kai Behncke
I found the solution now.
in the fwtools/bin -directory just typing:

"python gdal_merge.py", then it works :-)

(well, it´s important to do the command ..... "Fwtools/setfw.bat" before, otherwise, it doesn`t seem to use the "right" Python-version.

Best regards, Kai

Re: Question to python-tools in Windows 7

Kai,

I spent about a year bouncing back and forth between the ArcGIS
provided Python and the one provided by FWTools/OSGeo4W and it became
increasingly frustrating.  If I could go back in time, I would tell
myself the following: "Take the time to look at the
setfw.bat/setfwenv.bat and to figure out how it modifies your
environment.  It will save you many hours of frustration."

Best regards,
Dan Dye
